Horsewood is a South American tree with 13 different species.
The whole plant was used for food purposes and flour containing all nine essential amino acids was obtained. So far, Moringa oleifera is the only known plant with these characteristics.
Leaves are extremely rich in protein (25%) which exceeds the protein content found in eggs and milk. Even vitamins E and C are eight times higher than famous carrots and oranges. Seeds are rich in oleic acid (the same as olive oil).

Because of its high protein and antioxidant content, Fao classifies spicy wood flour as a superfood that can help manage hunger in poorer parts of the world.
Oil is also used to make cosmetic lubricants and biodiesel fuels.
Alkaloids that interfere with nerve transmission are not edible in the root.
